Belt Loop Bling!

End of the Year Belt Loop Bonanza!

Add a little bling to your belts...

The Wolf Den undertook completion of two belt loops this weekend: volleyball and badminton.  What fun was had as the boys learned the rules of these sports, practiced and played a game of each.  In true Pack 285 tradition, sisters and parents all participated.

Do you know about the belt loop program?

Throughout the five year Cub Scout Program young men can be recognized for their hobbies, athletic interests, and academic achievements by receiving belt loops and pins.  The belt loop program requires that for each interest the scout must complete three basic components.  For the pin program, scouts must complete five out of ten possible components.

This two tier process allows credit twice in a scout's career for a similar interest.  For example a volleyball belt loop and later a volleyball pin. While the belt loop is earned at the start of a scout's interest - when must is new and yet to be learned - the pin is awarded for a deeper understanding and mastery of the subject or sport.

This program is officially called the Academics and Sports Program. It offers a total of 53 subjects from which scouts may select.  Although some programs such as the BB Gun belt loop and pin are only available at Cub Scout Day or Residential Camps, the majority are common interests and activities which scouts undertake in their local communities, at home or with their schools.

So what's stopping your scout from blinging out his belt? Notify your den leader of any belt loops that you have completed so that an order can be placed.  Belt loops can be earned and awarded at any time of the year.
