Spooky Ree - Register NOW

It's time to register for a FUN FALL CAMP OUT!

Join us for SPOOKY REE!

We are in the midst of setting up the calendar for 2015-16 and are excited to offer SPOOKY REE as our first overnight optional camp out at the Bert Adams Scouting Reservation in Covington.

This is the HIGHLIGHT of the cub scout year. It sells out every year.  We have never been quick enough to secure spaces in the coveted PERMANENT TENTS with bunk beds, ceiling fans and electrical outlets.  This year we vow to make your scout's dream come true...we are securing spaces!!!

EXISTING FAMILIES: DEADLINE FOR OUR RESERVATION IS July 27th.
PROSPECTIVE FAMILIES: If space is available you can register in August at Rally Night on 8/28.

To read more about Spooky Ree 2015, please visit this link.   It's awesome.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT REGISTRATION:
  • The campout is October 9 -11, 2015.
  • Registration must be paid ONLINE and completed no later than SEPTEMBER 1st.
  • Families must register separately.  You will need your Pack # to register. Use "285".
  • Fees are $12.50 per sibling, $25.00 per scout, and $3.00 per adult. Siblings under 5 are free!
  • Dining hall meals are listed on the website below and should be paid for by the family during the online registration process. We are NOT planning to cook at the camp site. We will be eating in the air conditioned dining hall.
  • To register visit: http://www.atlantabsa.org/event/cub-scouts-spooky-ree-adventure-weekend-1-bert-adams/1761020
  • To be granted space in our tent pod, please forward proof of your completed registration to Sheila Boyd. She will assign tents on a first-come basis.
IF YOU WISH TO SLEEP IN OUR TENT POD:
  • Each tent costs $25 for the weekend. We do not receive a refund for unused tents - so to keep our investment low, we are reserving only a few tents. To ensure that we reserve a reasonable amount of tents, please RSVP your tentative interest to us by July 27th.
  • Pack 285 will begin assigning tent space as confirmed reservations are set to us by families. You will be notified directly if you have received a tent assignment in our pod.
  • After the initial reserved spaces are filled, Pack 285 will attempt to secure additional tent space for families registering at that point. Please keep in mind that these spots might not be located near our pod.
  • Tent spaces DO SELL OUT. So if we are unable to secure a space in the campground, you will be instructed to request a FULL REFUND of your registration fees from BSA. The last day for a full refund is 9/19 which is why our registration cut off is SEPTEMBER 1st.
  • Please register as early as possible so that we can get you into the campground before all the tents sell out.
  • Each tent has a raised wood floor, canvas surround, electrical outlets, and some have ceiling fans.
  • Each tent has 4 beds (bunk arrangement) and room on the floor for two sleeping bags. You can inflate twin air mattresses for comfort.
  • Hot water showers and flush latrines are located through out the camp.

Questions? Let me know. I am hear to help you. I hope to see you there!!

Sincerely,
Sheila Boyd

Can Summer Really be Over?

It feels like our June camp out was just the other week! How is it possible that the summer is racing to a close already?

With that said, here's a list of things to get in order before the new year starts:

  • Try on your cub scout uniform shirt.  Does it still fit?
  • Prepare a bag of donated hats, belts, scarves or other items for other scouts to use.
  • Mark your calendar for CLUB EXPO on Friday, August 21st at 1:00PM and stop by the booth to say hello to us.
  • Add RALLY NIGHT to your calendar on Friday, August 28th at 6:00PM at Amana Academy and come out to get new friends excited about scouting.
  • Remember to pay your $112 scout dues (a two installment payment is available) by Rally Night! Tiger parents will need to add $24 for their application and background check.
  • WATCH YOUR EMAIL for first meeting dates and upcoming activities.

What volunteers do we need for the coming year?

Thanks for asking!  As our boys age up and out of cub scouts, Pack 285 needs to start identifying replacements for key personnel.  Remember without parent involvement, Pack 285 will cease to operate.

This coming year -
  • Wolf Den Leader
  • Webelos (combined) Den Leader
  • Assistant Popcorn Kernel
  • Pinewood Derby Coordinator
Predicted needs for next year -
  • Tiger Den Leader
  • Pack Treasurer
  • Assistant Committee Chair (moving into Committee Chair role the following year)
We look forward to seeing everyone next month at Amana Academy!
