It's time once again to push some POPCORN!
This year popcorn sales will fund all or part of the costs for a two night overnight sleepover in a BUNK HOUSE at a Georgia State Park. All dens are eligible to participate.
Excess funds will offset the costs of awards, activities and other expenses for the entire pack. If your scout is unable to attend the overnight trip, your portion of the fundraiser may be applied towards BSA summer camp costs.
This is our only fundraiser for the pack for the whole year.
(Scouts do have an optional Spring personal fundraiser that they can elect to do should they need assistance raising money for a BSA summer day or residential camp. However none of that money goes towards Pack 285 expenses.)
Scouts can sell popcorn in 1 of 3 ways: door to door in your neighborhood, online, or by participating in a team booth at a major retailer. This email is focused strictly on the TEAM BOOTH sales. More information on the other options will be available at the September Pack Meeting.
2. How Do We Signup to Sell at a Team Booth?
This Signup Genius contains dates, times and locations for group popcorn sales hosted at a booth in front of a major retailer. Permission has already been received to solicit customers at these locations. Just click the link and select the date/time/locations which work best for your family. You can sign up for more than one opportunity.
3. How Much Do We Need to Sell to Hit the Target?
Our estimate is that if each scout sells $300 in product, he will earn $100 towards his overnight trip. This should fully pay for his costs at the event. If he earns more, these funds can be applied to his parent's costs for the trip or used towards a BSA summer camp.
The revenue earned at the booth for that shift is split evenly between the two scouts who participated.
4. Do I Need to Bring Anything to the Booth?
Pack 285 will provide the table, table cloth, cash box, signage, a Square for taking online payments (we will train you - it's easy!) and the actual popcorn.
Your scout should be dressed in his Class A uniform or at the very least in a Class B Amana Academy Pack 285 t-shirt. Scouts should be neat and tidy as well as cheerful.
We recommend on a hot day that you bring a bottle of water for yourself and your scout.
5. How Many Boys Are Needed at Each Location?
We need two boys at every location for each shift. Parents MUST stay with the boys.
6. How Long are the Time Slots?
Most of the time slots are 2 hours long. A couple of slots are 3 hours. None are more than 3 hours!
7. What are the Parent Responsibilities?
Every scout must be accompanied by an adult. No drop offs are permitted. Parents are responsible for coaching the scouts on sales tactics and proper etiquette. Parents should also be prepared to assist with the cash box and the Square. Finally parents are ultimately responsible for set-up and take-down of the booth and return of the materials to the Popcorn Team.
8. How Will I Know What to Do at the Booth?
A representative from the PACK 285 POPCORN TEAM will contact you in advance of your sale date to review the pickup, setup, take down, and return process for the booth in addition to how to use the Square. Please be sure to include your phone number when signing up.
9. Can I Just Pay for the Overnight Trip Directly?
Yes. You may pay for the trip directly. However in doing so, you deny Pack 285 the opportunity to earn extra funds towards its annual expenses such as Pack Meeting refreshments and activities, summer pack camp outs, the Blue and Gold Banquet, etc. Should you opt to pay for the trip directly, we ask that you also consider making a donation towards Pack 285's expense or perhaps volunteering for one of the open positions within the unit.
NEW THIS YEAR:
On selected dates Pack 285 is actually not "selling" popcorn. Instead we are asking customers to donate towards popcorn gift baskets which we will deliver to the local police and fire stations in Roswell/Alpharetta/John's Creek/Milton as well as towards a delivery to our military troops overseas. For many scouts and parents, it is more comfortable for them to request a donation than to actual "sell product." This option is a very popular one for our families and these dates will fill up fast. To participate in these special sales, please visit the Signup Genius and select one of the following dates/locations: Kroger @ Crabapple Rd on 9/5, Kroger @ State Bridge on 9/5, and Kroger @ Holcomb Bridge on 9/4.
