Tiger BITES

These Tigers really take a BITE out of healthy living!

Completing the Tiger Bite Adventure was a piece of cake for these scouts....rrr...or more like it was a piece of fruit!

This adventure is the first of many  for a cub scout as the boys learn about A SCOUT IS CLEAN. Scouts begin to work on healthy eating practices, how to maintain a healthy and active body, personal hygiene, keeping their thoughts and language clean, meal time etiquette and having a tidy personal appearance. As they progress in Cub Scouts the program builds on these early lessons with more detail.

Our den meet at Whole Foods in Avalon to complete this adventure and sampled favor healthy snacks together as we discussed the Five for Five Fingers - five rules to remember when eating with your fingers. We reviewed hand washing protocols as well.  The best part of the meeting however was the in-depth discussion on fruits and vegetables.

Our scouts were eager to share that fruits were the part of the plant where the seed was located inside of a fleshy shell. Strawberries are an exception. Vegetables are any other edible part of the plant: leaves, stalks, or roots. A scavenger hunt ensued pitting Team Vegetable against Team Fruit.  They had one minute to find as many of their designated category as possible.

It was a quick race but ultimately... only one prevailed!  Then the teams switched baskets to return the other teams food items to the proper locations.  GREAT JOB, TIGERS!
